Picking up manure at a magical forest

About once every 2 weeks I drive my truck 4 miles to the Enchanted Forest Park in North Miami.  Tucked away in the center of the dense oak hammock is a horse stable called Rock ‘n’ Ranch which provides pony rides to park visitors.  Every time I go I meet a new crew of volunteer young teenagers hauling wheel barrows full of fresh horse manure mixed with wood chips and some hay the horses didn’t eat.  My trailer stays at the park now, so when the kids clean out stalls, they unload their “gold” into it and when it’s full I drive up, hitch it to my truck and bring it to the garden to unload.  The horse bedding makes very rich compost which I’ll use on the field next season.

It’s a beautiful park, I recommend it to everyone in the area.  Picking up a heavy trailer and unloading manure is not my idea of a fun morning, but I have to say that I look forward to it because I love going into the oak hammock, it’s a magical place.
